About
This comprehensive 3-hour training combines two critical topics in infant and child safety: Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Abusive Head Trauma is a serious threat to babies and young children, often resulting from violent shaking or blunt impact, and is entirely preventable. Participants will explore the circumstances that can lead to AHT, how to recognize its signs, and what immediate steps to take when AHT is suspected. The course also examines Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), a leading cause of sudden, unexpected deaths in infants. Participants will learn about the most up-to-date research on SIDS risk factors and prevention strategies. This dual-focus training equips caregivers, parents, and early childhood educators with the knowledge and tools to prevent these tragedies and ensure safer environments for infants and small children. Course Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will be able to: *Define Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). *List the risk factors associated with both AHT and SIDS. *Identify the warning signs of potential AHT in infants and young children. *Understand the emotional and physical circumstances that could lead to AHT. *Enumerate evidence-based prevention strategies to reduce the risk of AHT. *Explain the latest guidelines and best practices for reducing the risk of SIDS, including sleep environment recommendations. *Develop a response plan outlining the immediate steps to take when AHT is suspected. *Support families in implementing prevention strategies in everyday caregiving environments. This training is essential for anyone working with or caring for infants and small children, including child care providers, parents, and early childhood professionals.
